Fun at the Zoo

Last Thursday we met our friends Sarah and Sydney at the Zoo for some fun before nap time. We had a blast!!

Sydney wanted to hold hands but Caroline just wanted to eat the stroller.

We saw lots of fun animals. The monkeys were a big hit with the girls. They were jumping and moving around and that's pretty exciting for 9 and 10 month olds!

I can't believe how close we were to a lion!!

We also saw an anteater. It was one of the strangest looking things we have seen! Caroline wasn't too impressed.

Caroline the giraffe.

Tongue out for good measure.

We had such a wonderful time with our wonderful friends!! I'm sure we'll be back at the zoo soon.

Bath Time

Caroline loves taking baths but apparently doesn't like getting her face wet. She is still getting baths in the sink but now that she has learned to splash she may be moving to the big bath soon. I gave her one bath in our big tub and she cried the whole time! We have a jacuzzi tub so I didn't know if she was scared of the jets or if she didn't like being so low down. We'll get there I'm sure but for now here are some cute pics of my baby in the bath.

Beautiful Day

We have just been loving this beautiful weather! Caroline loves being outside, but she isn't a huge fan of the grass. Good thing we've got plenty of blankets!!

The big empty spot is where mommy and her magazines rested :)

We grabbed a basket of toys and Caroline played her heart out.

Daisy loved it too.

We've been working on "mama" "dada" and "Caroline." We make her pat herself when we say "Where's Caroline?" Sometimes she'll randomly pat herself and it's always on her neck.

She's a fan of a good book

Yay for beautiful days!!

I should have known...

...That it was a little too quiet. I was doing dishes the other night and Caroline was playing with her music table. It got very quiet but everytime I looked at her she was just sitting by me and would give me the most angelic stare. Sure enough when I looked away she was getting into something.

I'm not too sure what it is or where it came from. All I know is that we had a great time scrubbing off C's new mustache!

On the mend

Caroline is feeling so much better!! She's finally over her ear infection. She's still taking antibiotics, but she's back to her normal self! Thankfully she hasn't had any ear infections prior to this because it was miserable!! Poor thing just wanted to be held all the time. Sweet and adorable, yes. Productive and comfortable, not so much. For a couple of days I couldn't get anything done around the house. Showering was even proving to be difficult. She woke up several times during the night, usually from coughing so much. It was no fun and we're glad she's back to normal!!

She went from this sick baby...

to this happy girl!!

Our fingers are crossed that ear infections will stay away from this house...

A Day in the Park

The weather has been so nice lately and we just love it!! Adam and I got to take her to the park last weekend for some fun on the swings.

While the swings were so much fun, we were more excited that Adam got to come with us! He's had to work so much lately and he's even been working on the weekends :( It was so nice to spend the day together.

I know that we'll be taking her to the park a bunch this spring and summer and I can't wait!

After we went to the park we took her to get some frozen yogurt. She kept making this disgusted face after each bite but would go back for more!! It was too funny.

First Word!!!

Okay, okay...so Caroline didn't say a "real" word, but she did say her first recognition word. We have been working on "mama" and "dada" with her since practically birth. I couldn't wait for the day that she looked up at me and clearly and happily said "mama." She started making the m sound and the d sound right about the same time. Not that it was a competition, but I totally wanted her to say my name first. Last week our little girl finally said.............

"Day Day" as in "Daisy." Yes, the dog beat out mama and dada. I thought it was a fluke at first but she says everytime she sees Daisy. She'll even wave and say something that sounds a lot like "Hey Day Day." It makes sense since I'm saying "Caroline, don't pull Daisy's ears" or "Daisy, stop licking your sister" all day long. I cannot keep those two apart!! Adam and I love Daisy like a child (it's almost awkward and probably unhealthy) so we are so excited that Caroline loves Daisy too and so proud that "Day Day" is her first word!!

How could you not love that beautiful face???

Nine Months Old!!!

Nine Months Old - February 23, 2011

Yesterday my little girl turned nine months old! This time last year I spent my time working on her nursery and daydreaming about the sweet little baby that would soon be coming. This year - I'm working on birthday party plans but I don't have time for anything else since she's always into everything!! She certainly keeps us busy! Since she has been sick and on medication, her nine month checkup has been delayed until March 7th, so we don't have stats until then. Last week when I took her to the doctor she weighed 17 lbs. At nine months old she can wave about 70% of the time, she can "pat" (like pat her leg or the dog), she knows our voices and will crawl to find us, she pulls up on everything, she walks holding on to things, she stands for a few seconds on her own!!!, and she said her first recognition word (see next post for that story)!! She can say "mama" and "dada" very clearly, but she hasn't assigned them to us yet but we suspect that will be happening very soon. She is the happiest baby I've ever met and also the sweetest. She is such a wonderful eater and we're working on her self feeding. It's going slow but we know she'll get there! She's tried black beans, avocados, bananas, and cheese so far. She'll get them to her mouth but then spits them out unless we mash it up and feed it to her on a spoon. I cannot believe that my little girl is already nine months old!!!

Happy nine months Caroline!! I have now had you for longer than I carried you. I felt like I was pregnant forever!! I just couldn't wait for you to get here. The past nine months have gone by so fast, but I know that we have taken advantage of every second with you. You are a dream come true!! I look forward to your little hugs and kisses each day. I love you so so much and I am so proud to be your mommy!

Quiet Time

My house is very quiet. Adam worked from home today and he's finishing up some stuff in the living room. Our very lazy Daisy is curled up on the couch sleeping. Caroline is also sleeping (and has been for most of the day) in my bed with me. Why has she been sleeping all day? My sweet baby has her first ear infection. In her almost nine months of life, this is the first time she's been really sick. She's had the sniffles here and there - but nothing big and nothing that required medicine. She hasn't wanted to eat anything since yesterday morning and she just wants to be held all the time. This is quite a change from my usual big eater who wants to crawl around and explore by herself. Luckily we got to see her doctor this morning. Hopefully some rest and antibiotics will make her feel better soon!! I don't like having the house this quiet...

I am using this time wisely however and planning her FIRST birthday party!! How can this be happening?? Why am I planning a birthday party when I feel like I just had a baby? I have found the invitations and party favors that I am going to order. I have some great ideas for decorations that I can't wait to get started on. I'm not ready for my baby to be a one year old, but since it's coming we might as well celebrate big!!!

Adventures in eating

Caroline is quite the little eater. She pretty much eats whatever I give with her when it comes to food. I still make about 90% of her food (the other 10% being her rice cereal and oatmeal and I also use store bought food when we go out for a meal). She really hasn't turned anything away although somethings she certainly does like more than others. Her favorite things right now are any flavor yogurt, sweet potatoes (or any combination that includes them), pear and blueberry together, and zucchini.

Caroline enjoying lunch at our playdate yesterday (yes, bad mommy forgot the bib). She was so inspired by the dots on her dress that she wanted one on her head.

Caroline does not like eating the Gerber puffs or crunchies or anything like that. She'll put them in her mouth and then spit them out. I bought Baby Mum-Mums to see if she liked that. I figured that since they were bigger and she could hold onto it she would like it more. Wrong. In fact, at one point Daisy took it out of her hands and Caroline clapped her hands!!

After a day of such messy eating, it's always nice to settle into a nice bath to get clean!

Baby Playdate

Last week we had a baby playdate and had the best time! C just loves spending time with all her friends and I love getting to spend time with mine.

Here's the gang

Caroline just loves Robert!!

Here is a picture from this past summer. Only Sydney and Caroline are pictured in the group above, but look how much these sweet babies have grown!! Some are walking, some are crawling, and some are even going to be big siblings!!! (Congrats E and big sis L!!!!!)

Time flies when you are having fun and we sure are! What a wonderful blessing our sweet children are.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day!! I am so thankful for my three wonderful Valentines!

We originally had plans to go out to a nice dinner but since we were all feeling a little under the weather we cancelled our reservations and decided to have a low key evening in. We curled up on the couch after dinner with a blanket, box of tissues and some decongestant. It was picture perfect :) Aside from stuffy noses and coughs, it truly was a wonderful day with our little family.

Breakfast Time!

Every morning C wants to hold something while waiting for her breakfast. I usually put her in the highchair and get her breakfast ready and she's fine as long as she's holding something. That something changes from day to day. One day it was the bottle nipple (not the full bottle), the next day it was safety goggles, this morning it was a comb. If she forgets to bring something in the kitchen with her she gets mad. I'll try to give her something to get her mind off it, but she's picky in what she wants to hold. She's a silly little thing. Here's C showing off her comb.

Newest Discovery

Caroline has discovered Daisy's bowls! She's not too interested in the dog food (yet) but she likes the noise they make when she pushes them around. She's crawled by them several times and never seemed to notice until yesterday.

Poor Daisy. Caroline seems to take all her things. She's such a good sport about it though!!
