Epic Failure...

So I had my glucose test today...and I failed it. It wasn't by much - but I still have to go back for the long test which means I have to drink twice as much of the crap and have my finger pricked like 5 times. I knew that I had failed when the lab person wouldn't give me my results, but sent me back to a nurse. It was nearly tragic. I almost cried when they told me I have to come back. It was a sad day. On the bright side - Caroline measures exactly at 25 weeks meaning that she's just perfect!! Her heart beat was good and strong. She's been kicking up a storm lately, but usually only at night. Looks like we have a little night owl on our hands - just like her daddy!

The Crib

The crib has been ordered!! It should be here in the next couple of weeks - so we'll finally have a room that looks like a nursery! All we are lacking now is the dresser/changing table. I don't have any better picture of the crib, but it looks like this:

That's just some picture of it that I found on the internet. Once it actually gets here, I'll post how adorable it is in the room. I cannot wait to get it all set up and put the bedding on. Adam and I were out doing some shopping today. I was buying a new maternity dress (as most of the pants that I have are too uncomfortable now) when my mom called to say that she had bought the crib for us!! Thank you so much mom!! We are so lucky to have such wonderful parents!!!

This Tuesday I will be 25 weeks pregnant - time is just flying by!! I also have my blood glucose test which I am NOT looking forward to. I still cannot believe that in a few months we'll have a little baby!

Busy Saturday

Adam and I have been out of town for a funeral - so it was very nice to be at home and decompress after our long week. Adam went to do volunteer work this morning so that left Daisy and me home alone. I spent the morning cleaning the house and relaxing. I decided that I should go out and do some shopping while I waited for Adam to come back. I did deserve it...

I went back to Interiors and Antiques (one of my new favorite places to spend an afternoon) and found a beautiful mercury glass canister that I thought would look perfect in our living room. It was a bargain at under $20.

Then I traveled to Home Goods to look for a cute mirror for Caroline's room. I didn't find one that I was crazy about or that I didn't have to paint. I did find a cute insulated picnic basket for super cheap. It was a total impulse buy - but I figured that it would be fun to take Caroline to the park and have a lovely afternoon sometime this summer.

After a few other random errands I met up with Adam and we took Daisy to Homewood Park. It was such a beautiful day!! She had so much fun. Look at our fun pictures from our trip.

Daisy's passed out right now after her long stroll in the park. We're pretty exhausted as well!

The Bassinet

Thanks to some very nice friends - we got a beautiful bassinet to use for Caroline. It is white with green polka dots - the same green as her nursery! It's too cute and we cannot wait to put her in it!

Happy Valentine's Day

I hope that everyone has had a wonderful Valentine's Day and a Valentine as sweet as mine! :)

Adam, I love you so much!! I am so proud to be your wife!

Adam's law school graduation

I look forward to every adventure we will take.

At Robert Mondavi winery on our honeymoon

And many, many more years together!!!

Our 1 year anniversary trip to the beach

Sorry to be all mushy...I hope I didn't gross too many people out (sorry Katie!!)

The curtains are up!!

It's starting to look like a nursery!! The room is all painted, the chair rail is up and we hung the curtains. Also - the chair has been ordered and the crib and dresser/nursery will be purchased this week - so they'll be in the room soon!! We are SO incredibly thankful to have such wonderful parents and grandparents that wanted to buy Caroline's furniture for her!!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!! Here are some pictures of the nursery along the way....

After we painted the room blue (and then used it for random storage)

The room painted green with the new curtains

Once all the furniture arrives, we can start putting everything up on the walls and make it perfect for Caroline! I can't wait!

We finally got snow!!!

It finally snowed in Birmingham! Adam, Daisy and I bundled up and went outside to play in the snow this afternoon. Daisy loves the snow. It's so funny to watch her. We put her little sweater on and she really wanted to wear some shoes so her feet didn't get cold....

But alas - she had to go outside bare pawed :) I don't think she minded it too much though.

I caught her mid-shake

Our house covered in snow

After playing for a while, we came in to warm up to some DVR and peppermint hot chocolate. I love the snow!!

Whale of a Sale

I took the day off today to go to the Whale of a Sale consignment sale at Vestavia Hills UMC. Looks like I wasted a vacation day - because my work is closing early due to the snow (and they don't give you the day back...). It was worth it to not have to go to work and be one of the first at the sale though!! I really got some great deals!! I got 13 little outfits and sleepers, 2 new Baby Einstein DVD's, curtains from Pottery Barn Kids including the finials and a cute little piece of art to hang on the wall - all for $100!!! I cannot wait to go to the next consignment sale! For now I must get to the grocery store since it's snowing...

Caroline's cute little art

A few of her new little dresses for the summer

The finials that will go on either side of the curtain rod (that we can hopefully get this weekend)

Have a happy snowy weekend!!

23 Week Doctor Visit

I went to the doctor yesterday (twice actually). I had another ultrasound and they confirmed that it is a girl. She was in the normal range for length and weight. She's about a foot long and weighs about 1 lb. 1 oz. - which is about as much as the weight of a large mango. Her heart looked perfect as did her other organs that we could see. She's been moving around a lot lately. It's fun to feel, but it keeps me awake at night! I really could use a good night's rest soon...

At the next doctor visit I will have to do the blood glucose test. If you don't know me - I abhor most drinks. The idea of drinking a "flat orange soda" makes me want to throw up and/or cry. I have been dreading this test ever since I found out that it wasn't optional. I still have two weeks to agonize over that test though.

In other news - it's consignment sale season!! I am taking a vacation day from work this Friday and going to "Whale of a Sale" at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church. I'm also going to hit up Lil Lambs at Trinity, Giggles and Grace at Asbury and Kids Market this year. I hope that I find some good stuff for Caroline! Hopefully this weekend we'll be able to order her furniture and get some other stuff for the nursery so that it doesn't just look like a blank room. Have a good rest of the week!

First Monograms

As soon as we had decided on the name Caroline, I started looking for something cute to get monogrammed. Babies just need their names and initials on things. A friend had told me about Southern Sweet Dimples, an online company that does really cute monogrammed items. I decided on this little bib and the pacifier holder. They were so inexpensive and were delivered pretty quickly. I can't wait to order more fun things!!! We have another ultrasound tomorrow. The doctor will check and see how she's growing and will also confirm that she is in fact a little girl. I can't wait to see her again!!

And finally...since you all should see this - here's my sweet Daisy.

Normally she looks at the camera, but she was mad at me. I found one of her bones when I came home. She works so hard trying to hide them and gets frustrated when we find them. She hides them in our shoes, in the couch cushions, under the covers and other places that we need to be. She gets this sad look of defeat...most of the time I pretend not to see them. Sometimes I'll even change my clothes just so I don't have to put on the shoes that she has hidden the bone in. Actually I'm just kidding about that...sort of.

Our Guest Room

Several people have been asking for me to put up pictures of the house. I haven't done that because the house is still a work in progress (and it may be for quite some time). We've been doing a project at a time, but now we really have to focus on Caroline's room!! As more things get done, I'll give you all the house tour. I will give you a couple pictures of the guest room. It's nice enough for visitors - so come and stay with us!!

I wanted the room to be a golden yellow color. The carpet in the room is still blue (which will be replaced this year to a neutral tan-ish color) so the room is a Sigma Chi room. The furniture was Adam's when he moved to Tuscaloosa for law school. We still have a few things to do, like get a mirror for above the dresser and get new bedding, but other than that it's in pretty good shape.

Before:

Now: (I won't say "after" since there is still more to be done)

The white thing on the dresser is actually Daisy's tail. I will post some pictures of the nursery this week - the chair rail is finally all up!! Thanks to all who helped! We'll be working on getting curtains up and stuff on the walls while we wait for the furniture. Of course we still need to make that decision... It's coming along nicely but I just can't wait until it's all done!!!

New table and other fun stuff

I have been looking for a cute little table to put beside the chair in the nursery. I found a small pink table on craig's list that I knew would be perfect. The person we bought it from made it for her daughter's nursery. It's pale pink shabby chic. We drove out to Greystone this morning to pick up the table. It's so much cuter in person, but here's a picture of it.

We went to a couple of baby furniture stores to pick out the crib and dresser/changing tables. We found a few that we really like and now we just have to make a final decision. We have picked out a chair that we love and we just have to place that order. Hopefully by the end of the week we'll have everything decided and ordered and we'll be well on our way to a completed nursery.

After looking at baby stuff all morning, we decided to check out some other stores to look for stuff for the rest of the house. We went to the new Antiques and Interiors store on Highway 31. I pass it almost every day and it was across the street from Storkland so we decided to check it and I am so glad that we did!! We found some really awesome stuff. We didn't get very much -but I can't wait to go back and get more! Adam has been looking for decanter tags for quite some time and we finally found a set! Although one of the tags had been stolen from the store, we still got them (and they gave us a nice discount). We also walked away with a small cheese dome. I may use it as my personal cupcake dome...

We found a really great corner cabinet that I wanted to get to put in the kitchen, but we don't have a way to get it home. I may try to bribe someone with a truck or SUV to go back with me so I can get it. I could have easily furnished my whole house and found art for every room there - but we eventually had to drag ourselves away (or Adam had to drag me away - however you choose to imagine the situation).

After that we went to "On a Shoestring" in Bluff Park. A couple of people were telling me about it recently so I really wanted to check it out. We didn't find anything we wanted, but it's a neat place so I'm sure I'll go back and see what treasures they get in. If anyone knows of any other fun antique, consignment or interior stores in Birmingham - let me know!!

Green Thumb

My mom has a green thumb. She has pretty flowers and plants outside and inside. I really wanted to be one of those people that could keep plants alive. When I was in college, my mom bought me a cactus...and I killed it. Right after we got married, Adam got me a fake plant. I am happy to report that it's alive and doing well :) I thought that now would be a good time to get some indoor plants and give my green thumb a second chance. This afternoon we went to Old Time Pottery and picked out a couple of pots and then we went to Andy's Nursery to get some plants. I got a beautiful bromeliad (which is related to the pineapple). I was going to put it on the console table in the living room, but I apparently got a large one - so we put it by the fireplace. It really looks nice and makes the room a little more cozy.

I also got a small rex begonia to put in the kitchen.

I'm going to get a couple more plants to put inside and hopefully by spring time they'll still be alive and I can start doing some work in our flower beds outside. If they're not alive...we may be hiring professional landscapers (or my mom!).

Girls Night Out

Adam usually goes to play basketball with his friends once a week - so I take that time to do fun things (or just watch reality tv that I know he would make fun of me for). Tonight I went out with two of my favorite people, Cassie and Candice! We went to get Mexican food - which is sort of our tradition. Cassie and Candice are the kind of girls that will come help you paint your house on their days off or buy your dog a birthday present! Sadly Cassie is moving next month to Texas so we won't have as many fun nights out :( Thanks Cassie and Candice for going out with me tonight!!! Let's do it again soon!

22 Week Belly

Today two strangers asked me when I was due!! This was very exciting for me because now I feel like I actually look pregnant - not just like I had one too many cheeseburgers. All day at work people were commenting that I had really "popped" over the weekend. Here is the 22 week belly...

Forgive the pajama pants, it was bedtime!

And her name is:

Caroline Grace Israel. Adam and I have have officially decided on a name! We pretty much had it picked since day 1 (well day 1 of knowing that she was a girl) but we wanted to sleep on it for a while to make sure it was the perfect name. I've already got a couple of things monogrammed! We have another ultrasound scheduled for next week and they'll confirm that she is in fact a girl (if it turns out that it is a boy - he'll have to be named Caroline and wear dresses). We're just so excited about little Caroline!!
